Autumn Garden painting workshop 16th October 10-4 pm

£75.00

I am delighted to have the opportunity to run some painting workshops in Jenny and Ralphs beautiful and inspiring garden in Iden.

This is the perfect introduction to plein air painting where we will cover the set up for working outdoors, choosing your subject, and how to develop your painting. There are a wide variety of subjects to choose from within the garden including countryside views. I will be using oils to demo with but you can use your medium of choice.

The garden will be full of autumn colours now which is such a wonderful tie of year for painting outside

Garden painting at Burnt Oak Manor

A maximum of 10 students per workshop

Throughout the morning we will be looking at how to set yourself up for success in painting the great outdoors. Comfort is key and making sure you have the enough but not too much equipment and materials is vital. We will spend time looking at how to choose subjects and how to work out your composition . Although I will be painting alongside you in oils this workshop is less about the medium and more about the plein air experience, so you can work in your medium of choice.

We all work at a different pace and choose different sizes to work on, so you may want to work on 1 or 2 paintings throughout the course of the day.

More than anything this is an opportunity to be with like minded artists in an inspiring environment. Jenny has her own studio in the garden and a wonderful conservatory that students will be welcome to use if they need shelter or prefer to paint a view looking out.

There will be coffee and tea breaks and you will need to bring a packed lunch

If you don’t have plein air painting gear please don’t worry!

We will have enough easels for those who don’t have their own. You will just need a little folding chair if you prefer to sit and folding table for paints pots and brushes.

Materials you will need.

I’m obviously happy for you to bring along any paints and brushes and solvents/mediums you already use as long as they are roughly based on the selection below.

My list is for an oil painting set up. You can apply the same list to your waterbased or acrylic mediums but obviously water instead of solvent.

Please include a sketch pad and pencil

Medium/solvent

For these workshops I will just be using a low odour solvent for thinning paint contained in a brush washer or if you are using water based oils you will only need water.   You can use a good screw top jar for your solvent or buy a special airtight brush washer/pot  or dippers which clip onto your palette, links for both below or you can purchase from Artwrite Rye. You can buy the airtight brush washer/pots on amazon to.
